Cabinet refinishing

Definition

Repainting or restaining existing kitchen or bathroom cabinets in place instead of replacing them. Doors and drawer fronts come off, everything is cleaned, de-glossed, primed and sprayed, then rehung on the same hinges.

Why It Matters

Refinishing turns dated oak or laminate into a current finish for a fraction of replacement cost, with no demolition. The prep, especially de-glossing and a bonding primer, is what decides whether the finish chips.

Simple Example

A Fernley kitchen goes from honey oak to warm grey in a few days without a single cabinet box being removed.
