Definition
Stripping wallpaper and its adhesive from a wall, then repairing and priming the surface so it can be painted.
Why It Matters
Painting over wallpaper fails at the seams and traps the paper. Old adhesive left on the wall bubbles new paint. The wall usually needs washing, repair and often a skim coat before it is ready.
Simple Example
A 1980s Reno kitchen with two layers of paper is stripped, washed, skim-coated and primed before colour goes on.
