Washoe Zephyr
Definition
The thermally driven west-to-southwest wind that blows across western Nevada on summer afternoons and evenings, typically from mid-afternoon until late, with gusts of 20 to 30 miles an hour. Mark Twain gave it the name.
Why It Matters
The Zephyr lifts dust that lands in wet paint and carries overspray onto cars and neighbouring houses. It is the reason exterior spraying in Reno, Sparks, Spanish Springs and Fernley is done in the morning in summer.
Simple Example
A Sparks exterior is sprayed from 7 a.m. and wrapped up by early afternoon before the wind comes up.
